FAQs

Thinking of starting your career in disability support work? Great! It’s a growing industry in constant need of motivated people looking to make a difference.

There are several requirements and paperwork items that will need to be checked off before you get started:

  • Complete relevant training: Most employers require a minimum of a Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability) or Certificate III in Disability.

If you’re not yet studying towards one of these qualifications but are considering it, feel free to get in touch with us to discuss your post-study employment prospects before committing.

  • Required screening checks: You’ll need a Disability Worker Screening Check (Yellow Card) to work as a disability support worker with a registered provider in Queensland. If you’re interested in supporting NDIS participants under 18, a Working with Children Check (Blue Card) is also required. You can apply for both checks at the same time via the QLD Government’s online portal.

Please note: You need to have employment lined up with a provider before applying for your Disability Worker Screening Clearance. We can assist you with this during our recruitment process.

  • First Aid and CPR certification: At boldi, we make sure all staff are up to date with these. Don’t worry if you don’t have these certificates yet, we can help you get them.

For more information check out the QLD Government’s Before you start page.

The worker is responsible for covering the cost of the screening checks. These checks are transferable, allowing workers to use them across different organisations of their choice. To assist with affordability, we offer payment plans as an option. It’s a small investment that supports their professional compliance and flexibility.

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training equips individuals with the skills to recognise, respond to, and provide initial support to someone experiencing mental health challenges or crises. This training helps you identify signs of mental health issues, such as anxiety, depression, or panic attacks, and teaches you how to offer immediate, practical assistance until professional help is available. The goal is to improve confidence in providing support, reducing stigma, and promoting early intervention in mental health situations.
