SUPPORTED INDEPENDENT LIVING BRISBANE

Supported Independent Living (SIL)

Living independently doesn’t mean you have to do it all alone. Find your safe and stimulating environment to live, learn, and grow.

Creating a space to thrive

We connect NDIS participants with secure SIL housing packages, complete with hands-on help with the day-to-day. Enjoy the benefits of a place to call home, while developing the confidence to explore the wider world.

Our SIL support helps you with

Finding home base

SIL success starts with finding the right accommodation. We connect you with suitable shared housing where you’ll thrive alongside other participants within an all-inclusive support framework.

Looking (and feeling) your best

Your support worker will be there with a friendly reminder and a helping hand to keep yourself neat and tidy. This includes assistance with bathing, toileting, getting dressed, and personal grooming.

Cooking up a storm

Even the best home chefs struggle to keep their meals diverse, delicious, and nutritious. We know it can be challenging, but it’s also fun. You’ll enjoy planning weekly menus with your support worker, shopping for ingredients, and cooking meals — guided by advice from your nutritionist (if you have one).

Household management

Bored of chores? Paperwork getting you down? Your support worker can lend a hand with cleaning, laundry, and general ‘life admin’, keeping everything from the kitchen sink to your email inbox tidy and manageable (you’ll even learn some tricks to stay on top of things in your own time).

Getting out and about

Getting participants through each day is essential, but our sights are set higher. We challenge and support participants to pursue ambitious goals.

Managing your medication

Stay on top of important medications and other healthcare needs with the help of a professional support worker, giving you (and your support circle) peace of mind that you’re keeping healthy.

Explore life beyond limits

Choose your own adventure

You and your support circle are in the driver’s seat. Give input on support worker selection, suggest daily activities, and keep us updated on your dreams and goals.

Support on your schedule

Whether you require 24/7 support with overnight support from carers, or something less, our workers are there for you when you need them.

Flexibility for changing needs

Want to trade off more support one week for a reduced load the next? That’s fine – we can adapt to your evolving goals and the limits of your NDIS Plan budget.

Holistic design

We consult your allied health team — OTs, behavioural specialists, nutritionists, and more — to ensure the support is on-point and aligned with your aspirations.

The steps to supported independence

Get in touch

Support coordinators, self-managed NDIS participants, or a parent/guardians reach out with some details on their housing and support requirements.

Prompt proposal

We’ll reply advising of potential properties and support staff capacity suited to your needs.

Meet and greet

Once everything looks good ‘on paper’, we’ll hook up an inspection and a face-to-face meeting between support worker and the participant, either in the proposed new home, in a public space, or online if you like.

Sign off and move in!

If the vibes are right, we’ll draw up the rooming and service agreements. If not, we’ll look for other options to find a fit. Even if it takes a few tries, we’re committed to getting you in your safe and supportive space ASAP!

FAQs

Supported Independent Living (SIL) provides participants with daily support to maximise their independence within their own home, usually shared accommodation living with other participants. Typically, the SIL residents ‘share’ a support worker/s, getting assistance with things like personal care, household chores, community participation, and more.

We help you find a room in a suitable SIL property by working with real estate property managers to connect you with shared tenancies that match your needs for location, price, and housemates. Once a place is found, we create a rooming agreement based on a rental amount you can afford.

Keep in mind, your NDIS Plan doesn’t cover rent—just the support worker costs. We handle property management on your behalf, including repairs and bond payments, giving you the chance to focus on living your best life.

SIL focuses on providing daily support from a worker, while SDA refers to specialised housing for people with extreme disabilities or high support needs. Essentially, SIL is about the support you receive, while SDA is about the type of housing you live in.

SIL funding comes from your Core Supports budget under the “Assistance with Daily Life” category in your NDIS plan. It covers the costs of support staff helping with daily tasks, and the amount is based on your individual needs, often determined by a quote from your SIL provider and relevant reports like an OT’s assessment.
