Community participation for NDIS participants

Our Community Participation service will set you up to

Be more physically active

Whether that’s joining a social sporting team or getting your steps up with a bushwalk, finding your fitness fix can be a great way to improve your physical and mental health and mix with others in a relaxed setting.

Enjoy the arts and get crafty

Brush up on your skills with an art class, or even join a local community theatre in putting on a show. The only limit is your own creativity – you got this!

Attend an event in your community

Step out at a local festival, concert, or other event with your boldli ‘sidekick’ there enjoying the vibe with you.

Give back through volunteering

Giving your time to a worthy cause makes you feel good and can even build skills and experience that come in handy on the job hunt.

Learn something new

Curious about how to do pottery, stand-up comedy, or maybe ride a unicycle? Whatever it is, there’s a course or workshop for it which we can connect you with (and cheer you on as you take the plunge into learning).

Become more job-ready

We’ll help you identify and engage with work experience opportunities and other strategies to improve your CV, helping you find rewarding employment in the long run.

Explore life beyond limits

Choose your own adventure

You and your support circle can set the agenda for activities to do and what you’re looking for in your support worker ‘sidekick’.

Aspire to innovative community participation

Community participation means more than a trip to the small each week. Together we’ll aim higher, arranging fun and fresh activities that challenge you to grow within a safe, inclusive environment.

Cultivate capacity and confidence

You’ll have our full support as you venture out, with the bigger goal of building the resilience and relationships you need to thrive.

The participation pathway

Get in touch

Support coordinators, self-managed NDIS participants, or a parent/guardians reach out with some details on their support requirements.

Prompt proposal

We’ll reply within 48 hours advising of our capacity. Wherever possible, we’ll suggest a support worker we think is a great match for the participant.

Meet and greet

Once everything looks good ‘on paper’, we’ll hook up a face-to-face meeting between support worker and the participant, either in their home, in a public space, or online if you like.

Sign off and step out!

If the vibes are right, we’ll draw up a service agreement. If not, we’ll look for other options to find a fit. Even if it takes a few tries, we’re committed to getting you out and about in your community ASAP!

FAQs

Innovative Community Participation goes beyond standard community access by focusing on skill-building, personal growth, and achieving long-term independence. Unlike traditional community participation, which may involve general outings without clear alignment with a participant’s goals, this program takes a capacity-building approach, designed to develop new skills for greater independence.

What makes it unique is the opportunity to work alongside skilled community engagement practitioners who focus on pathways like employment, emotional awareness, and social confidence. The aim isn’t just participation—it’s about expanding opportunities for paid work, strengthening social abilities, and empowering participants to live boldli in every way possible.

Social and Community Access funding can be found in both the Core Supports and Capacity Building parts of your NDIS plan. Here’s how it works:

Core Supports: This covers day-to-day assistance like transport to community events and support worker time to accompany you. For example, a support worker could help you attend a local market, a hobby group, or a social event, ensuring you're supported throughout the activity.

Capacity Building: This fosters your independence and confidence in social settings. The budget may cover the cost of workshops, programs, or even fees for a specific course or activity. For example, if you want to join a social touch football competition, the Capacity Building part of your NDIS plan could cover the membership fee, helping you develop social skills, improve fitness, and connect with others in the community.

Both funding categories work together to ensure you stay connected while developing skills and confidence so you can be more active in the community.
